Florida’s back to school sales tax holiday begins Monday, July 24, 2023, which means shoppers won’t pay sales tax on most of the things found on a student’s supply list! This Sales Tax Holiday ends August 6, 2023.

The start of another school year is not far away. School begins in Palm Beach County on August 10, 2023. As parents and students get ready, a sales tax holiday is kicking in. The holiday is part of a broader $800 million tax package that Gov. Ron DeSantis signed in May.

Florida families are expected to save about $100 million between July 24th to Aug. 6th, according to the research group Florida TaxWatch.

What is Tax Free

During the sales tax holiday period, tax is not due on the retail sale of:

Clothing, footwear, and certain accessories with a sales price of $100 or less per item*
Certain school supplies with a sales price of $50 or less per item
Learning aids and jigsaw puzzles with a sales price of $30 or less*
Personal computers and certain computer-related accessories with a sales price of $1,500 or less, when purchased for noncommercial home or personal use

What is NOT Tax Free

This sales tax holiday does not apply to:

Any item of clothing with a sales price of more than $100
Any school supply item with a sales price of more than $50
Books that are not otherwise exempt
Computers and computer-related accessories with a sales price of more than $1,500
Computers and computer-related accessories purchased for commercial purposes
Rentals of any eligible items
Repairs or alterations of any eligible items
Sales of any eligible items within a theme park, entertainment complex, public lodging establishment or airport

Local families can download the Walmart app, find their student’s school and find the supplies list for an easy shopping experience! Just type in the child’s school city, state or zip code and the name of the school.

The School Sales Tax Holiday kicks off Monday July 24th, giving students and parents a chance at sales tax-free purchases on school and student clothing and supplies through August 7th in Florida.

The sales tax holiday is a limited time period where Florida allows you to make purchases of qualified items during its sales tax holiday and you will not be charged sales tax on the purchases.

2024 Sales Tax Holiday begins Monday July 29 and ends on Sunday August 11, 2024.
